Zen monastery and meditation retreat center above the Columbia River
Great Vow Zen Monastery is a Zen training center run by the Zen Community of Oregon on forested acreage overlooking the Columbia River flood plain, about 80 miles northwest of Portland. Founded in 2002 in a former elementary school, it follows the White Plum lineage of Taizan Maezumi Roshi with influences from Tibetan and Theravada traditions. Jan Chozen Bays Roshi and Hogen Bays Roshi serve as spiritual directors. The monastery offers a public Sunday program, monthly weeklong silent sesshin, weekend retreats, residential practice and overnight guest stays.
