Garrison Institute
Contemplative retreat center in a former monastery on the Hudson
The Garrison Institute is a place of refuge, reflection and restoration housed in a beautifully renovated 77,000-square-foot former Capuchin monastery on a bluff above the Hudson River, about an hour north of Manhattan. Guided by simplicity, hospitality and universal welcome, it hosts spiritual teachers, students and communities of practice from many wisdom traditions, offering more than 100 retreats, symposia, workshops and events each year. The light-filled former monastery church serves as the meditation hall; guests share simple rooms and meals, a walled garden with a labyrinth, a meadow gazebo overlooking the river, and 93 acres of preserved land with trails that link to the Appalachian Trail. Groups of 70 or more can book the sanctuary for their own retreats.
